Running
ClubParticipation in the Arbor Running Club
is a fun way for children to get started in the lifetime
sport of running. By running with their friends and
classmates they get the encouragement to keep on trying
(even when they’re feeling tuckered out), the motivation
of setting shared race goals, and the plain ol’ fun of
running with others. Of course they’ll also learn about
stretching, proper running form, and how to train for a
variety of running events. The Club is supervised by
volunteer parents from Arbor Montessori Schools. Siblings not
attending Arbor are welcome to join in as well.
The Arbor Running Club gets started each September in
preparation for a variety of local Fun Runs, including the
Seattle Kid’s Marathon. The children meet after school for
warm-ups, running and running games, followed by a
cool-down and stretches. There’s also time to fill out the
provided running logs so they can track progress towards
their goals. The majority of runs take place on Arbor
Montessori
Schools property, but sometimes we get to use the track at
Skyline High School just across the street. The children
run rain or shine . . . which allowed us to enjoy some
pretty amazing rainbows last Fall!
The Club takes a break after Thanksgiving until about the
middle of April. Then, we get started again in preparation
for springtime events such as the Issaquah Triathlon & 5K
(www.issaquahtri.com).
Send us an email if you’d like to join in, or you’re
interested in helping out!
